Pool Calc vs Leslie's Pool Care App

Leslie's app connects you to Leslie's: in-store water tests, AccuBlue Home results, treatment plans with its products, ordering and rewards. If you test at a Leslie's store, it's the natural place to see your results. Pool Calc is for testing at home with your own kit and dosing with whatever you already bought.

The short answer

Leslie's app is the companion to Leslie's stores, and for store shoppers it does that job well. Pool Calc is for people who test at home with their own kit, want exact doses for any brand, and want a full log with charts, free for one pool and its spa.

Both apps are free. Leslie's is a retailer, and its app is built around its stores and products. Pool Calc doesn't sell chemicals; it's paid only if you look after more than one pool.

Test at home, dose with what you have

Leslie's app is built around Leslie's tests. Pool Calc takes the readings from whatever kit you use at home, strips, drops or a meter, and gives doses for the products on your own shelf at the strength on their labels.

Pool and spa, side by side

A spa attached to your pool is part of the same site in Pool Calc, with its own readings and doses, at no extra cost. A Leslie's reviewer said tracking a pool and a separate spa wasn't easy.

Your numbers stay put

Every test and dose stays in Pool Calc's log on your phone, backed up to your own iCloud. A 2025 Leslie's reviewer said some test results weren't saving.

What Leslie's App Users Complain About

Paraphrased from public reviews. Each one links to where it was posted and gives the month it was written.

  • Home device results don't match standard tests. After about a year of renting the home testing device, a June 2025 reviewer said its results often disagreed with standard tests, plans gave mixed results, and some results didn't save (App Store review, June 2025).

Pool Calc approach: use any kit you trust and enter its numbers. Every test saves as a draft as you type, and the "Inputs used" disclosure shows what each dose was based on.

  • Pool and spa can't be tracked separately. A 2018 reviewer liked the rewards tracking but said there was "no easy way to track a pool and separate spa" (App Store review, July 2018). The developer replied that some requests were planned.

Pool Calc approach: the attached spa is part of the pool's site, free, with its own log.

  • Shopping problems. A June 2024 reviewer reported cart and order problems and found only the test tracking useful (App Store review, June 2024).

Pool Calc approach: there's no store in the app. It does the chemistry and the log.

When Leslie's is the better choice

  • You use AccuBlue Home.
  • You buy from Leslie's and want ordering, pickup and member rewards in one place.
  • You want to find a nearby store.

Questions people ask

Do I need the Leslie's app to test my pool water?

No. The Leslie's app shows tests done in Leslie's stores and through AccuBlue Home. If you test at home with your own kit, Pool Calc takes those readings and gives doses for the products you own.

Can the Leslie's app track a pool and a spa separately?

The App Store description doesn't say. A 2018 reviewer said there was no easy way to track a pool and a separate spa. In Pool Calc, a spa attached to the pool is part of the same site and has its own readings, free.

Is there an app that works with any brand of pool chemicals?

Pool Calc works out doses for any chemical at the strength on its label, from any store. It is free for one pool and on the App Store at launch.
